"Enhancing Mobile Web Service Delivery
over Wide Area Networks"

Innovations in access technologies for cellular systems have now resulted in sufficient data capacity for generic mobile web services. However, increasing uptake of smart phones has lead to greater usage of the mobile browser to retrieve and render content that was previously accessed in a desktop environment. As a result, problems that plagued mobile web service delivery at the beginning of the decade are still resulting in an unsatisfactory user experience today. In this talk, two of these problems are considered – latency, and power consumption. The use of a handset-based web proxy as the primary technology enabler for addressing these two issues is examined as well.
